Muhammad Rauf Bin Razali

Full time undergraduate from the National University of Singapore

Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering

Rauf is currently in his second year of study. He aspires to be a systems engineer with an eye for continuous improvement. This principle is clearly reflected in his academic achievements up to this point in time. Despite obtaining unsatisfactory results in his first year of study, he continued to strive for better results. His ever improving grades following each semester is a testament to his undying work ethic and perseverance.

Rauf is also highly adaptable as demonstrated by his myriad job experiences and involvement in various co-curricular activities during secondary education. He had worked in teaching and administrative sectors, manual as well as despatch jobs, and also in coordinating events. In particular, his teaching experience provides valuable insights on cultivating self confidence and handling social relations with people of various family backgrounds. He was awarded with the Certificate in Teaching Methodology by the University of Oklahoma, which taught him of the most efficient method of imparting knowledge to others. Also, he was active in Malay Cultural club, soccer and National Cadet Corps (Air), which instills in him the importance of time management.

Rauf exhibits passionate interest in team work as he believes that the functionality of the team ultimately depends on the commitment of each member. His involvement in the success of Meridian Junior College’s pioneer batch of soccer team in the national inter-school competition epitomises his belief in cohesive team work. His soccer team managed to clinch the fourth spot despite being the underdogs in the competition.

In summary, he believes that nothing can ever be achieved without labour, upholding the motto

"Nil sine labore"

  1. I feel that it is better to exclude the part about your unsatisfactory results in your first year of study. In my opinion, just by saying that your grades have been improving with each semester is sufficient to show that you have the drive to strive for better results.

Perhaps you could be more specific about your jobs, like where you taught at or what sort of events you coordinated (if it is within the word limit though).

Other then those 2 points, I think your biodata is rather well written!

  2. As mentioned by Joyce, I agree with her that it will be best not to mention about the unsatisfactory results.

Maybe you can mention more the Certificate in Teaching Methodology by the University of Oklahoma that you have received. I thought that was a plus point to mention .

    Cheers!

  3. I thought the “unsatisfactory” is fine (I am his blogging buddy). I think it shows that he is willing to reflect on his shortcomings or errors and knows where he stood at that point in time. The employers will probably be going through his transcript eventually. Therefore I do not think it will make a difference. If anything, I think it might humanize him, showing that everyone is fallible or will go through a bad patch. However, I do understand the points made by Joyce and Pinxuan regarding this issue.

Rauf focused on telling readers about his character and beliefs in his biodata, in addition to the various achievements and awards. Compared to my biodata, I think his biodata is more appealing to the reader because it gives a sense of knowing Rauf more intimately.

  4. How come everybody seems to have a much more exciting life than me? =p

I'll have to agree with Jackson. Rauf's biodata really does give the reader a sense of intimacy. Something which I feel is pretty hard to do when writing in third person.

However, I too will have to disagree with him writing the words, "unsatisfactory results". Perhaps rewording it to, "despite setbacks in his first year of study,..." would sound ... nicer?

By the way Rauf, how did you get that Certificate in Teaching Methodology? It's not something that usually appears on the typical Singaporean student's study path.

  5. Well I can fairly say that we guys have a common understanding! No offence to the ladies :). It was just a casual remark.
My purpose of this biodata is to personalize it so that my readers will get a rough idea of who i am.
By the way, I obtained the Certificate in Teaching Methodology through the a tuition centre. Every one of the tutors are required to obtain the certificate to qualify them as tutors for the centre. In other words, I undergo the course unwillingly. But it was a well organized course and I manage to learn the various ways in dealing with various school kids.
